Salt, Dec. 17 (Petra) -- Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) aimed at strengthening collaboration in food security, sustainable agriculture, and the development of climate-resilient agri-food systems.

The agreement was signed by University President Ahmad Fakhri Al-Ajlouni and FAO Representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf, establishing a framework for future cooperation in education, scientific research, innovation, and capacity building.

According to the memorandum, the partnership seeks to support local communities, enhance sustainability, protect biodiversity, and strengthen community resilience in addressing the impacts of climate change.

Al-Ajlouni said the agreement aligns with the university’s role as a national applied institution committed to linking higher education with sustainable development priorities and expanding the impact of applied research in addressing national and regional challenges.

Assaf described the agreement as a strategic step toward deepening cooperation between FAO and Jordan’s academic sector, emphasizing that integrating academic expertise with applied research is essential for building efficient and resilient food and agricultural systems.

He added that the partnership will contribute to capacity building and the achievement of shared objectives aimed at empowering local communities and ensuring long-term food sustainability.
